Wicker Park man charged with killing and torturing cats

A 22-year-old Wicker Park man has been charged with killing and torturing cats, based on officers.
Thomas William Martel was charged with 4 counts of aggravated cruelty to animals and two counts of animal torture, Chicago police stated.
Martel is accused of killing two cats by drowning and squeezing them and mutilating a 3rd cat, based on police stories.
One other cat was present in a plastic bag in Martel’s condominium, the place a witness stated the cat had been microwaved, based on the report.
A police report lists Martel’s residence in Wicker Park, however courtroom data and police say he lives in Northbrook.
Martel turned himself in Monday, based on police stories. His bail was set at $75,000, based on courtroom paperwork. Martel must put up $7,500 in an effort to be launched.
His subsequent courtroom date was scheduled for July 17.
