Chicago police: Man arrested after utilizing arrow key to steal from USPS mailbox in West Loop

CHICAGO (WLS) — A person has been charged after authorities stated he was caught stealing mail out of a mailbox within the West Loop Tuesday.

U.S. Postal Inspectors stated they have been conducting a surveillance mission close to Racine Avenue and Adams Avenue at about 3 a.m.

Investigators stated he was seen utilizing an arrow key to take mail from a USPS mail field. They stated he dropped a number of items of mail and was apprehended by brokers.

The arrow key and 7 items of mail have been recovered.

Chicago police stated 51-year-old Richard Thompson was charged with housebreaking and theft. Federal costs are pending.
