Australia’s Cameron McEvoy has gained a bronze medal within the males’s 50-metre butterfly on the world championships in Doha.

McEvoy (23.08 seconds) completed behind Portuguese teenager Diogo Ribeiro, the shock winner in 22.97, and Michael Andrew of the US.

The bronze medal is McEvoy’s first world medal in butterfly and was an enormous shock to the Queenslander, who had not educated for the occasion.

“A few days earlier than this competitors have been successfully the primary few strokes I did of butterfly this entire preparation since Fukuoka,” McEvoy mentioned.

“I used to be 18th in Fukuoka and third at this time, so that is fairly an enormous step in six months. So it’s a large shock and it is vitally good.”

McEvoy could have a couple of days to relaxation earlier than he begins his 50m freestyle title defence within the heats on Friday.
