Britain’s Geraint Thomas continues to steer the Giro D’Italia after stage 13

Einer Rubio gained stage 13 of the Giro d’Italia as Geraint Thomas retained the Maglia Rosa on a rain-interrupted day.

Movistar rider Rubio gained the 74.6-kilometre stage in two hours 16 minutes and 21 seconds whereas Thibaut Pinot and Jefferson Alexander Cepeda completed second and third respectively.

Rubio mentioned: “A giant day that I used to be searching for by working very onerous. It has been troublesome with the unhealthy climate. However I needed to hold going.

“I knew that Pinot was very sturdy. I needed to end with him and play it properly tactically. It’s going to take time for me to grasp that I gained a stage of the Giro d’Italia. I did not imagine I would do it.”

The stage began underneath heavy rain at Borgofranco d’Ivrea however organisers have been pressured to re-route a few of it, with riders retreating to their staff buses because of the circumstances.

Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers) retains the general lead forward of Primoz Roglic and Joao Almeida.
